Simple Secrets to Instant Happiness

Depression is the inability to construct a future.”

–Rollo May

Are you happy – I mean really is anyone truly happy?

Sure we all want more – more money, more sex, more free time to spend with our family and friends.

And then again we want less too – less work, fewer responsibilities and less fat floating around our midsections.

It’s only natural. But for an unfortunate few out there happiness is something that constantly escapes them.

I know it’s sad but it’s also true – and it can affect nearly every aspect of their lives. Everything from their physical and mental health to their ability to perform sexually, even waking up in the morning to go to work can feel like an insurmountable task.

So what to do? Well if you’re one of those people that’s constantly waking up on the wrong side of the world in the morning than you’re in luck today.

Because with just a little a little faith and a little effort incorporating a few simple strategies I’m about to share with you today – you can and will smile again.

My 15 Simple Secrets to Instant Happiness:

1) Find Focus: You can only do one thing at a time effectively anyhow, so try to cut back on your multi-tasking. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, focus on the task at hand and relish in the fact that you’re getting it done and you’re doing it right. A recent study conducted by Duke University recently found that people who multi-task are more likely to suffer from high blood pressure.

2) Sooth Your Savage Beast: Music does a lot more than just keeping us entertained on the ride to work in the morning. Studies have shown that music stimulates the part of the brain that makes us happy. So the next time you’re neck deep in something you’d rather not be doing just turn on a little music. And if there’s no radio around then try whistling.

3) Live in the Moment: Don’t worry about unpaid bills or the fact that your in-laws are coming to stay with you for a month. Live in the here and now and deal with the problems you can’t fix immediately when their time comes.

4) Sweet Smells: Research has shown us that the soothing benefits of aromatherapy are the real deal. So next time you’re out try grabbing a few sweet smelling candles or maybe try placing a few of those plug in air fresheners around your house – then just sit back and smile.

5) Your Head in the Sand: If you’re anything like my Aunt M. watching the news or any type of sporting event is enough to make your blood boil. So if the stress of the world around you is driving you insane try tuning out for a week or two. Ignore the daily paper and skip the evening news for a while and use that time to do something that makes you truly happy.

6) Laugh Loud and Laugh Often: Laughing releases pleasure inducing endorphins and lowers your body’s production of the hormones that cause you stress. So make it a point to watch funny movies or maybe now since you’re skipping the news portion of your paper you can use that time to read the comics. And when something is funny don’t be afraid to laugh out loud.

7) Just Say NO: It’s one of the easiest words to pronounce. And typically it’s one of the first words a child learns. But still so many of us have a problem saying it to others when they ask us for a favor. So get over it – if you don’t have time to help your brother–in-law move or drive him to the air port just tell him, “No I’d love to help but I just don’t have time this week” if he’s really your friend he should understand.

8) Walk the Dog: There are numerous studies that point to the stress relieving benefits of having pets. Couple that with a nice brisk walk around the neighborhood with mans best friend and you have a sure fire recipe for instant happiness.

9) Exercise: Its better for relieving stress than any drug man has ever invented. When you exercise vigorously your body releases pleasure inducing endorphins that can have an amazing up-lifting effect on your mood.

10) Sexy Time: Even though its number ten on my count down good old sex is first in all of our hearts. There’s nothing like an energetic round of sex to put a smile on your face and make everything seem right in the world. And the best part is you get to put a smile on someone else’s face in the process!

11) That’s What Friends are For: To make our days brighter and our lives a little easier. So make sure to give priority to the people in your life that make you truly happy. A recent study conducted on both men and women found that the participants that had a good group of supportive friends in their corner were more likely to have lower blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood sugar levels.

12) The Big Man: Church is a great place to go and find your center when the trials of life start dragging you down. It good for the soul to remind yourself from time to time that the world needs you in it. But if you’re not an overly religious person you can still try and find solace in a park or a museum or any place quiet that appeals to you.

13) Get Involved: You can volunteer at your local hospital, church or any local charity. Helping those less fortunate than you not only feels great – but it’s also a good reminder that sometimes our own problems aren’t nearly as bad as they might seem.

Finally: a pain fighting formula that not only eradicates pain but also increases joint mobility and repairs years of damage from constant wear and tear. And this is the only place you’ll find it, anywhere.

14) Keep it Clean: My Jiu-Jitsu instructor always used to stress the importance of a clean house for a calm soul. And he was right – it’s almost impossible to really truly relax when your house is in shambles, none of your socks match and there’s a stack of newspapers from floor to ceiling sitting in the garage. So clean it up – cleaning in of itself is very therapeutic. But on top of that the satisfaction of living in a clean orderly house will put a smile on your face from ear to ear.

15) Be Thankful: So you’ve tried every trick in the book and you just can’t seem to get happy no matter how hard you try. We’ve all had one of those days. But no matter how bad things get – no matter how much stress is piled on you, you have a lot to be thankful for.

So if even if you’re having the worst day ever – take time everyday to remind yourself of all the things you have to be thankful for. I know it sounds like a speech from your mom but trust me it works.

If you actually sat down and put pen to paper you’d realize you have a lot of things in this world to be grateful for – friends, family, your health and you’ve always got me in your corner.

Sometimes all it takes is one little thing to hang your hat on.

Stay Healthy!
