“As sweet as Balm, as soft as air, as gentle.”
– William Shakespeare, “Antony and Cleopatra”

Some 400 years ago, Shakespeare wrote this line. It’s one any of his readers or playgoers would have understood. “As sweet as balm, as soft as air, as gentle.”

The Bard was writing about an herb found in almost any English garden. One with a “nature” that was sweet, soft, and gentle. The herb we call lemon balm.

Centuries before “scientific” medicine, the world’s greatest playwright could toss a line about it into one of his most important plays… without the slightest worry anyone wouldn’t understand.

But fast-forward 4 centuries, and the average person doesn’t have a clue about this amazing herb. One modern science has proven delivers on the promise of Shakespeare’s time… and more.

Lemon balm may be an ancient herb. But it’s one the latest science is proving to be incredibly effective. Especially for anyone with problems getting a good night’s sleep.

The Science of a Racing Mind… and How It Affects Your Sleep

We live in an amazing 24/7 world. New York may have once been “the city that never sleeps.” But, today, that describes any modern community. There’s simply no break in the activity… the fun… and the stress.

Your boss has access to you all day, every day. Even when you’re on vacation, you can’t escape e-mail and instant messages.

It once took weeks – or even months – for bad news to arrive. Now you hear about every awful news story almost instantly. If a news crew isn’t there, someone will record it on their cell phone and post the bad news.

You just can’t escape the stress any more.

Glutamate is your main “excitatory” neurotransmitter. It’s the chemical that gets your brain buzzing… and keeps you awake at night.

GABA is a calming neurotransmitter. It’s glutamate’s opposite. It shuts down the buzz that keeps you awake.

But stress favors glutamate. It’s hard to relax and grow sleepy when you’re worried. Job stress… political stress… even family issues can keep your brain buzzing. And keep you from sleep.

You need a way to shut down glutamate and promote GABA.

Thank goodness there’s lemon balm.

The Centuries-Old Brain-Calming Champ

Centuries ago, Shakespeare knew lemon balm was sweet, soft, and gentle. Today, we have plenty of studies to show the Bard was right.

If you want to calm your brain, there’s nothing like lemon balm. That’s why it’s a key ingredient in Best Life Herbals’ DeltaSom sleep formula.

Millions of Americans suffer with sleep problems. And – poor sleep can lead to weight gain, brain fog, and many more health problems. Even a higher risk of early death.

That’s why lemon balm is literally a godsend. This humble herb blocks the activity of GABA-T.

GABA-T is an enzyme that breaks down GABA. In other words, it fights your ability to keep a calm mind. GABA-T is linked to problems like brain fog, having the brain “lock up,” and even alcoholism.1

As you can imagine, blocking the activity of GABA-T could yield big benefits.

A 2009 animal study proved lemon balm could effectively block GABA-T activity.2 A 2011 study showed lemon balm might help boost production of healthy brain cells, too.3

In 2014, Australian and German scientists worked together to test lemon balm. More good news resulted.

These doctors found people who ate foods with lemon balm as an ingredient felt more serene and performed better on test of mental sharpness.4 That’s right. Lemon balm didn’t just calm people down… it appeared to sharpen their mental skills as well.
Now, if you stopped there, lemon balm might seem like the best news you’ve ever heard. But why stop when there are even more benefits you can enjoy?

Sleep Better Because You Experience Less Pain

For some people, pain is an issue. When some part of your body throbs with pain, it’s hard to ignore that pain and drift off to sleep.

But what if that pain didn’t seem so… well… so painful?

Imagine if the sensation of pain became just a fraction of what it had been. Feeling less pain, you could enjoy more sleep. And that’s another way lemon balm can help.

A series of experiments in Brazil show lemon balm may help boost resistance to pain. In these experiments, volunteers who took lemon balm felt less pain than people who didn’t.

The lemon balm may not have lowered levels of actual pain, but it made the pain seem less severe.5

These studies may make lemon balm seem potent… but let’s get to the bottom line. And that’s sleep. Can lemon balm help you sleep better?

Study After Study Shows Lemon Balm Boosts Healthy Sleep

Poor sleep is closely linked to feeling anxious. The more anxious you feel, the less likely you are to sleep well. But if you feel less anxious…

In a 2011 study, doctors found almost 95% of their volunteers had favorable responses to lemon balm. All the volunteers were anxious and suffered from sleep problems at the start of the study.

After 15 days taking a lemon balm extract, 70% reported complete relief from anxiety. A whopping 85% reported an end to their sleep issues. And 70% said they felt free of both problems. 6

Can It Get Any Better?

Lemon balm seems to have a strong impact on several causes of poor sleep. But what if you used it in combination with other herbal sleep aids?

That’s what Swiss doctors did. They combined lemon balm with valerian and tested it against a placebo in a blind test.

They found the combination was over 3 times more effective than the placebo. And he volunteers actually tolerated the herbs better than the placebo. That is, more people taking the placebo complained of side effects.7

A more recent study looked at 918 youths with sleep problems.

After taking a lemon balm/valerian combo, 80.9% slept better… and more than 7 out of 10 were less restless. Side effects were both rare and mild.8

Of course, that was in younger people. How well does this combo work for mature adults? A 2013 study answered the question.

Doctors in the Middle East recruited 100 volunteers. All were women in their 50s and 60s going through “the change” and suffering with sleep problems.

The volunteers were split into two equal groups and given the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) test before and after the trial.

Doctors gave half the women a lemon balm/valerian mix. The other half took an inactive placebo. But who was taking which wasn’t revealed to either the volunteers or to the doctors working with them.

After the women went through their second PSQI, the results were revealed. Those taking the herbal combo saw big improvements in sleep. The placebo group didn’t.9

As you’ve probably already guessed, DeltaSom combines these two potent herbs. But that’s just the start.
