Cleaning House, Toxins Part 2

In my last article, I wrote about the toxic challenge you face. I also gave you a few tips on how to lower your exposure to some of these dangerous chemicals. Today, we’ll focus on getting toxins out of your home – and your body.

But first, let’s take a quick look at why this problem is so serious.

Remember the study we talked about in the last article? The one where researchers found 167 toxic chemicals in people’s bodies? Well here a bit more on what they discovered:

  • 79 chemicals that cause birth or developmental abnormalities
  • 86 that have a negative effect on hormones
  • 80 toxins that cause kidney damage
  • 77 chemicals that compromise the immune system
  • 94 that cause brain or nervous system damage

These numbers add up to a lot more than 167… but that’s because many of these toxins can have multiple effects. And when a lot of them get into your system, their impact adds up.

Imagine you’ve pricked your finger with a thumbtack. That’s not so bad, right? But what if you pricked your finger with 10,000 thumbtacks? You’d be lucky to have any finger left. It’s what’s called “cumulative effect.”

To stop the cumulative effect of toxins, you have to limit your exposure. Then you have to help your body get rid of what’s already there.

Eliminating the Toxic Threat to Your Health

We can never bring our toxic exposure down to zero. But we can get rid of a big chunk of the problem. And the first step is to identify the source.

For example, the Environmental Working Group compiled a source list of some of the toxic chemicals found in their study’s subjects. Here are just a few of the common items they identified:

Adhesives, bakeware, batteries and bleach… carpeting, cold cream, cough syrup and detergents… hair spray, inks, lotion and paint… perfume, rubber, soap and solvents… spray paint, tooth paste, varnish and vinyl floors.1

That’s quite a list! But, luckily, you don’t have to memorize it. That’s because the government has put some of your tax dollars to good use.

You have access to a giant storehouse of information on toxins, courtesy of the National Library of Medicine. It’s called “ToxTown” (, and it contains a wealth of information on toxic products. Plus, it links to other government sites with useful information, such as Medline Plus.

You can use these websites to determine the toxic culprits in your home. And once you know where the problem is, you can take steps to eliminate it.

For example, you can replace commercial window cleaner with vinegar and water. It does just as good a job, but without all the chemicals. And common baking soda works nearly as well as abrasive cleaners. But it’s much safer.

Of course, that doesn’t take care of the toxins already in your body.

Cleaning Inside as Well as Out

There are several ways to help your body rid itself of toxins. And one of the best is to get your digestive system in top shape. Since your digestive system is also a part of your immune system, it only makes sense that strengthening it will strengthen your body’s defenses.

Bestlife Herbal’s Flora DSF does just that by providing two of the most effective “friendly bacteria” known to science – Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. These probiotics help support the natural colonies of bacteria so important to your health.

And Flora DSF also supports your gut flora by providing them with prebiotic fiber – the natural food your friendly bacteria eat.

Many natural therapists also recommend colon cleansing as a way to help rid your body of toxins. This view is backed by an article in the Journal of Herbal Pharmacology.

The authors explain that colon cleansing actually supports the liver’s detoxifying powers. And it creates a healthier environment for your friendly bacteria.2 For an added boost, Bestlife Herbal’s Colo-Cleanse also contains the natural detoxifyer, chlorophyll.

These two steps – getting toxins out of your home and then out of your body – can go a long way towards improving your overall health. Don’t be surprised if people comment on how good you look… or if you feel as good as they say you look. Many people tell me they find a new energy and zest for life once they’ve rid their body of toxins.

Next week, in the final article of this series, you’ll discover a shocking source of toxins.
